Maniac Monday;

Published November 22, 2011 by myntshop

A maniac monday in short; packed up the mess from Saturday’s event whilst decked in office attire wasn’t fun at all. Not to mention, the rain during lunch hour kinda left us drenched. That definitely dampened my mood, and my hair too.

Met up with Stan for dinner, though he has witnessed me at my ugliest but I still felt cranky that he had to see me with my soaked hair and attire after a long day at work. Nonetheless, it was a good dinner :B nothing fancy but wholesome and awesome hawker fare at Blk 505 Jurong West Street 52 (Jurong West Food Centre). Our main objective was to have piping hot Beef Noodle Soup, but too bad its rest day is on Monday so we had to look for alternatives instead!

Swee Kueh; finally satisfied my cravings for this!

& his favourite, Oyster Omelette.
Give me the egg and skip the oysters please! Never a fan of oysters =/

My main dish, simple Duck Rice.
In case you’re wondering, Stan had Char Kway Teow. Haha, sinful max.

Albeit the hectic work/school life lately, I’m ever so thankful that we try our best to make time for each other. Be it a short meal, a simple text message, or even just dropping by my place nearby to spur me on with happy food, you know it best.
Thank you, dear soul mate =)

And ending my post with a review of Love, Bonito (LB) Cameron Cardigan in Black, and MYnt-Shop necklace!

I snagged this piece immediately after I saw the tweet from @LoveBonito! It was available as extras from backorder, and I am oh-so-slated that I had managed to get this beautiful outerwear in Black. They have added more colours for this cute little cardigan, but black is still the most versatile of all. The swallow prints are gorgeous and dainty looking, hence jazzing up this otherwise black cardigan. It’s a bit snug on me though, but I foresee pairing this up with simple basics for work or sundates! So, this is definitely a keeper for sure ;) Only issue now is, I have to stop purchasing outerwears >.< Tsk.

For ref: UK8/10, 169cm.

Back to books, once again. Bummers//

Love,

Published November 14, 2011 by myntshop

Love

  • doesn’t judge.
  • has no boundaries.
  • is selfless.
  • means equality.

Perhaps I’ve learnt to embrace Love with no boundaries since my teenage days due to a few gay friends that I have befriended and became best friends with… Hence, I came to be aware that it’s never easy to be in their shoes in our society. Having doubts about your own feelings towards the same gender, when the so-called norm says that it’s wrong to do so. Who are they to judge? How about love across continents, across cultures, across races, across religions, or across ages? Maybe we have been brought up with the knowledge that love can only exist between people of the same religion/race/culture and of different gender, hence the perspective of a normal relationship remains that way in our mindset.

I dare not say that I could understand how LGBT lives in our society, but at least I’m taking the first step to accepting them. Accepting the fact that they are humans too, with feelings and with hope in finding their ‘true love’. Reading posts from Peggy’s blog about her relationship with her girlfriend, and coming out (despite being in relationships with men before), it further strengthens my belief that it doesn’t mean ‘straight’ relationships are happier than ‘gay’ relationships. Straight or gay or bi-sexuals… everyone has a chance to love, everyone has the right to love. So long as the two persons in the relationship are happy, does it really matter?

If you’re struggling to come out to face the world (that may be against you, at the moment), don’t give up and don’t forget =) you aren’t alone.

p.s. I don’t know what came over me to churn out this block of words, maybe it’s ‘cos I am getting annoyed at the society’s disrespect and bullying of gay people. And it definitely saddens me more to say how the plight of gay people overseas have driven a couple of my gay friends to doubt themselves at times. I have to say that I respect everyone’s opinions towards LGBT relationships, so I hope you’ll respect mine too.

p.p.s. a close straight guy friend once told me, “Do you know that not everyone is straight? There’s a slight gay tendency in every single one of us.” How true? For you to know I guess ;)

p.p.p.s. I had qualms about publishing this post and making it public, but heck it anyways.

I have a dream.

Published November 9, 2011 by myntshop

People who mocked at your dreams, they clearly don’t know what dreams are.

I posted the above on Facebook a while back, and got a few Likes and comments from fellow peeps. I used to keep mum about the dreams I harbour, the occupations I hope to try out, the man I yearn to lovethe family I hope to build and the life I want to live. However, as years pass by, I’ve learnt that it’s good to dream big. The dreams may seem unattainable, but what’s the harm? Who are they for those who judged? None.

Working takes up almost half of my day, on weekdays – so I’d always feel that it’s very important to be happy with your job. Albeit the many pros this job gives me, the amount of satisfaction derived from the tasks assigned is minimal. Perhaps the previous job experiences involved vast amount of areas that had allowed me to do creative thinking and conceptualisation, as compared to the current administrative-based job scope. Then, I would think of my priorities – my current pursuit of a Degree in Communications with UniSIM, all else don’t seem to matter for a moment. Nonetheless, these thoughts keep recurring at the back of my head.

Despite all that, I seek comfort in the fact that I have a dream and I will pursue it concurrently with my degree. That’s what I will do, what I can do for now.

1. Travel
- bring me to Maldives, Hong Kong, Australia, or even a short getaway will do good.

2. Take up a Wedding Planner course
- After my degree, I hope and I want to pursue a course for Wedding Planners. Afterall, I really love doing events and immerse in the happiness around me (albeit the stress and taxing schedule).
- Incorporate MYnt into the business concept too, and my sis has expressed her interest in helping out. How awesome!

Of course, with dreams, I think it works doubly better if you have support from family and friends. Dear mommy’s really supportive, Stan gave me the thumbs-up and commented that the most important thing that matters is knowing I’m happy doing what I’m doing, and nutties were so readily to encourage me to dream big too.

I’m truly blessed =)

Movie Review: “Paranormal Activity 3”

Published November 2, 2011 by myntshop

Details:
1hr 24min‎‎ – Horror (English‎)
Director: Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman
Writers: Christopher B. Landon, Oren Peli (characters)
Cast: Chloe Csengery, Jessica Tyler Brown and Christopher Nicholas Smith

As part of a tradition of celebrating Halloween, we had visited Night Safari (Halloween Horrors) for the past two years; but this year, it has been called off (bummer!) and the USS Tickets were too expensive :( so we decided to go for a horror movie together instead! Haha. Golden Village also had a horror movie marathon at Jurong Point, but we skipped that and went for Paranormal Activity 3 instead.

Following the success of Paranormal Activity and Paranormal Activity 2, Paranormal Activity 3 is more of a prequel to the other two instalments. It is the story of Katie and Kristi when they were much younger, and somewhat the origin of the demon was being told as well. Shall not reveal too many spoilers here, all in all…we thought the first instalment was the scariest, but this latest movie shows the most violent scenes in terms of sounds and sightings.

Not worth the weekend ticket price in my opinioin, but good to watch if you had caught the previous two instalments. :)

What am I doing here?

Published October 19, 2011 by myntshop

I woke up this morning, much earlier than the usual 0645 timing, to complete my assignment. The mundane weekday preparation routine for work, the mundane weekday route to work, and the mundane shit to face at work. Then I recalled last night at Popular bookstore, Stan was showing me this book on Beach/Sea-side Hotels, and my mind wandered off.

- Panama’s Island -

- Koh Samui -

1.5 years till end of this pursuit for my degree; hang in there.

Photo log; when words are unspoken.

Published October 19, 2011 by myntshop

Lately, there have been a lot of depressing news - the inhumane act by Chinese people on an innocent two-year-old toddler in China, the passing of a great racer Dan Wheldon, and the still-missing Singaporean Kouk Leong Jin. Just wanna say, big hugs to everyone. Hang in there! Cheers to life, and suck it up when life isn’t going the way you want it to be.

Photo log entries are awesome; the photos below pretty summed up on my October 2011 so far.

Of pills, daisies, Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream treat after Escapade 2011 rehearsal, more daisies, Ben & Jerry’s Chunkfest 2011 (my first!), mommy’s ai xin fruits box, getting back to my running regime,  textagram, tweegram, inspirational quotes, dinner dates, and lots of love xoxoxoxo.

Till the next; x, out.

Movie Review: “What’s Your Number?”

Published October 17, 2011 by myntshop

Details:
1hr 46min‎‎ – Romance, Comedy (English‎)
Director: Mark Mylod
Cast: Anna Faris, Chris Evans and Ari Graynor

The moment I saw Chris Evans in the movie trailer of “What’s Your Number?”, I exclaimed to Stan rather loudly in the theaters – WE MUST WATCH THIS! Well, nobody can really deny that he is such a hearthrob <3 Anyways, despite this movie being a rom-com chick flick (in my opinion), the movie theater at Vivo City was packed with quite an equal ratio of male to female surprisingly. Story plot is the predictable rom-com layout – girl met all the heartbreakers, then bumped into this guy but some shit had to happen which led to misunderstandings. Shit got cleared up, girl and guy made up. The End. It’s that predictable, lol. The saviours in the movie are the occasional humour, Anna’s bimbo self, and definitely the hot bod of Chris Evans. I swear that his charm swooned all girls in the theater ;)

Not a must-watch, unless you are a big fan of Chris Evans :)

Weekend Movie Dates: “I Don’t Know How She Does It”, “Johnny English Reborn”, and “Friends With Benefits”

Published October 10, 2011 by myntshop

Like most couples in Singapore (Stan and I believe), weekend kinds means movie dates. As much as we try to find time during weekdays to catch the movies we’ve waiting for, weekend timings are more preferable. For the pass three weekends (since my birthday weekend), we’ve caught three movies – “I Don’t Know How She Does It”, “Johnny English Reborn”, and “Friends With Benefits”. To add on, it was like a movie marathon last weekend – we caught “Hubble” at Science Centre (IMAX), prior to watching “Friends With Benefits” at GVJP.

Here are my takes on these movies, but of course your views on the movies may differ from mine ;) so, read with a pinch of salt!

“I Don’t Know How She Does It”

Details:
1hr 29min‎‎ – Comedy (English‎)
Director: Douglas McGrath
Cast: Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan, and Kelsey Grammer

The first of the three movies over the past three weeks – we caught this movie during my birthday weekend. It’s quite a chick flick if you were to ask me, so (most) guys would not enjoy it I think. Somehow it seemed more like a drama series than an actual movie. Nonetheless, it speaks true of women these days – juggling a career that she wants to pursue, mingling with her children and chores, and of course making sure that the relationship with her husband does not go stagnant. Quite a handful huh? Light-hearted comedy, but I find the plot quite forgettable. Catch it only if you have no other movies for a movie date? :) For more information (and spoilers), here’s the link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1742650/.

“Johnny English Reborn”

Details:
1hr 31min –  Adventure, Comedy, Thriller (English)
Director: Oliver Parker
Cast: Rowan Atkinson, Rosamund Pike, and Dominic West

Heard lots of rave reviews from friends and colleagues that we just had to catch this movie! FYI, I did not watch the first installment of Johnny English, and I totally get the movie ;) so it’s not must to catch the first one yeah. We caught this movie at Cathay Cineleisure, and I just have to add that Golden Village theatres have better seats in general -___- meh. Anyways, this movie is hilarious! Rowan Atkinson totally lives up to his name as a great comedian! His antics were funny as usual, not really the predictable sort I must compliment on that ;) The story plot is interesting as well, combining Western and Eastern culture into one movie is a clever move I must say. Hurry go catch it before it stops screening, I think it has been out for a while already! And oh, do stay back for the credit mentions to end /winks.

“Friends With Benefits”

Details:
1hr 29min – Romance, Comedy (English)
Director: Will Gluck
Cast: Mila Kunis, Justin Timberlake and Patricia Clarkson

The last movie of the movie marathon for the past weekends – Friends with Benefits! A rom-com ;) definitely awesome for date nights, heh. A lot of grinding and bed scene actions, which I thought it was a little too much at a few parts of the movie. The puns and jokes made were funny though ;D Justin Timberlake is really becoming a better actor with every movie he starred in. Chemistry among the cast is great, and I think the bottomline of the whole movie is really sweet and true – “If you find someone who makes you happy, don’t let him/her go.” It’s not the exact same statement, but somewhere along that line. You get my drift, I bet.

Feeling under the weather since last Friday, I seriously didn’t expect it to be so bad that a simple flu led to coughing and now it’s sore throat. Sucky that I had to forego the NIKE 10K Run, meh. Anyways, thanks sweets for the surprise (Daisy) that I was caught off-guard whilst sipping my warm mocha at McCafe. Mommy love cooked pork/scallop porridge for Sunday’s lunch, it’s totally TDF.  Life on Sundays like these, perfecto!

Back to editing, minutes correction, and … the list goes on. Have a great week ahead peeps! :)

Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2011

Published September 19, 2011 by myntshop

Usual running kaki/girlfriends and I signed up for the Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2011; thinking that it’s a 10KM run and it’s for a good cause as well! The run took place yesterday (18 September 2011), with the Start point near Changi Village and the Finish point at Changi Prison.

Xueling and I met up at 6am to catch the first train (or rather, we tried to but failed ‘cos of our snooze-the-alarm-stunts :P ). Reached Expo Station by 7am and we met up with Shermz and Samantha to join the queue for the shuttle bus. Hellavu long queue please, zzz. Thinking that we had managed to board the bus pretty early (Germz was late and joined us later), we felt that we still had time for the ladies and baggage deposit. Boy, we were wrong! Massive jams on the way, and traffic was so slow. A huge dismay when we saw the 10KM participants running after the flag-off at 7.45am. Yes, we were still on the bus at the point of time! Zzz.

Reached the drop-off point at 8ish am, and we headed straight to the baggage point. Quite a far walk from the Start point if you were to ask me. While waiting for Germz, we headed to the ladies and saw a huge crowd who were still nearing the Start point. Sad much please :(  when we realised most of these participants are 6KM runners. We also saw huge throng of buses still coming in, and some were wearing the 10KM bib. We finally managed to ‘flag-off’ ourselves close to 8.50am, meh. Even then, there were still a lot of runners who were on the their way to the Start point! Zzzz.

Thanks to Germz for the photo! ♥

Toughest run till date – too many slopes albeit a change in the usual run routes (think Nicoll Highway, F1 Pit Building, and the Helix Bridge), and the weather was a killer. The flag-off time for 10KM was 7.45am, as compared to 7am or 7.15am for the other runs that I have joined so far. The slopes were never-ending, I think close to half of the distance was covered with kill-me-please slopes. The girls and I kinda gave up (sadly) after the 4KM mark.

Having said so much, we were really happy when we completed the run! :)  Though it was pretty disheartening and not a really motivating sight to see people already walking home/going home with their goodie bags when we were still halfway done with our run. It’s that late already!

The up side of this run? Great company of course, motivating each other along the way, best goodie bag ever (in terms of the bag literally), and cool-looking medal. Not forgetting, the main objective of this run is to show support to ex-convicts =) giving them a second chance to start anew. Will I join again next year? Girlfs and I shall leave that question unanswered for now.

Another happy moment was when Stan surprised me at Expo! He did mentioned and asked me the night before, if I would want him to fetch me at Expo after my run. Siao -.- it’s really far (from one end of Singapore to the other), so I told him that it’s ok, besides he needs his rest! So when I messaged him after my run, he replied “I just reached Expo.” Happy me please :) thanks dearest! :B ♥

—————–
Headed home after an early brunch at Ichiban Boshi! =) Then, washed up and scooted off to meet my dearest sisters at PS. Cafe, and that I shall leave it to the next entry ♥

Movie Review: Crazy, Stupid, Love

Published September 16, 2011 by myntshop

Details:
1hr 58min‎‎ – Comedy/Drama/Romance‎‎ – English‎
Director: John Requa, Glenn Ficarra
Cast: Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, Marisa Tomei

Caught this movie last weekend, after much hinting and blabbering about it, lol. Ironically, we caught this rom-com amidst a big squabble, meh. Anyways, Crazy, Stupid, Love is a must-watch for everyone. Friends, couples alike ;) very interesting, though exaggerating at times, storyline with an in-depth meaning to the whole show. Not to mention, Ryan Gosling played his Cassanova role really well. I love him best when he let loose his vulnerable side to Emma Stone :) a light-hearted romantic comedy that will add some sugary-ness to your weekend. And my favourite scene is this (appended below), nothing sexual, just good ol’ laughters and let down your hair after a long day… not afraid to look silly, and yet they are happy. That’s love, isn’t it?

Do catch it, if you haven’t! x, out.
