A little history of MYnt Shop
You know they always say, sometimes passion fizzes out fast if something remains stagnant for too long? I had this feeling late last year and early this year with MYnt Shop. As many of you would know, MYnt Shop is the brainchild of my sister and myself – though she doesn’t take part much in it now due to work commitments, but she gives her opinions on the charms to buy when our suppliers email us the pictures etc. Some unknown facts or rather, things that I seldom mentioned is… MYnt Shop has been around since August 2006, and it started out as a hobby of mine. I was keen on wiring trinkets after seeing off the net, and went to the National Library to borrow books on handmaking accessories with wires. Of course, not the cable wires (though I have to admit, I started with those ‘cos my father has plenty of them in his toollbox), but jewellery wires. Something like this, appended below.
I remembered travelling all the way to Orchard Heerens after my classes in poly (year one or two), just to buy the craft wires and charms. My memory tells me, my first handmade necklace is a crystal ball strung on a long silver necklace! Haha. Amateurish much? Then, I did craft wire earrings and gave a pair to my sister who wore it to school. Her classmates saw it and asked her about it. And the rest is history ;D
We started out on blogspot, link: http://mysteriously-yours.blogspot.com/. Haha! Yes, if you have guessed it, MYnt stands for “Mysteriously Yours, Noi and Teng”. We had clay accessories, craft wires, and then we started to source for suppliers – mainly Malaysia, Korea, and Japan! But just for trivia, our first supplier is from the States, heh. Amazing huh? Remembered our panicky state when we couriered the payment to him, which took three weeks to reach him and the goods took two weeks to reach us! Not to mention, the amount wasn’t small to start with.
I have always considered taking this business to be a full-time thing, but on second thoughts, I held back. Reason being, it started out as a hobby and love for handmaking items. I do not want it to be a stressful venture, and take the fun and love out of it. So, a hobby and side-line venture it shall be. Not that it is making big bucks, my mom has been nagging at the increasing costs of the charms (hence the mini increment in the pricing of the items), but I still want to pursue this on.
Before I go on for far too long and this post becomes a grandmother story, I would love to have feedback about MYnt Shop! It can be the layout, the pricing, the photography, the packaging, the items sold, the designs, or even our customer service!
